One of my favorite parts of being a designer for Pacha is that I get to frequently sift through photos from our travels. While designing the W.A.S.H. Wagen, I discovered one photo of a little boy, Johan, we met in Peru. I remember him so well because he was the most curious, most mischievous little boy, always finding ways to get in trouble with the school master.
The purpose of the W.A.S.H. Wagen is to educate about the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector. About 2.2 million children under the age of 5 die each year from formidable illnesses like diarrheal diseases (cdc.gov), something easily preventable through simple hand washing. In the photo with this blog, you can see Johan in this rare moment of sincere concentration, as he washes his hands.
I can’t wait to go back to that community and see those kiddos, especially Johan 🙂
There’s one video clip of Johan and one of his friends “tackling” Andrew to the ground and tickling him. It was such a precious moment, and every time I look at our van, I will be reminded of the special love we shared with Johan.
Peace and Love,
Pacha Mama Abi
